The officers of the GWCA have been working on your behalf to improve the status of wrestling in Georgia:

The fall clinic was again a success - we had over 50 coaches in attendance. Those who attended observed a great technique session presented by Oklahoma State All American and current Citadel coach Jeff Ragan. The coaches who attended the clinic also were able to complete the fall rules clinic requirement.
We are in the process of organizing a free coaches' clinic to be held sometime in the spring.
Officers from the GWCA have already secured a spot on the agenda for the GHSA spring meeting to be held in Forsyth.
We are now accepting nominees for the Kyle Maynard Tough Man Award, as well as the two GWCA Scholarships. Last year, the GWCA was pleased to award two $500 scholarships to two deserving wrestlers. Nomination forms are included.

The GWCA conducted its first coach's clinic in September 2004 and has worked with the GHSA in implementing the following:

A guarantee that at least three classes will be held at the Gwinnett Arena in the 2006 State Individual Tournament.
Strong wording concerning having an administrator at morning weigh-ins.
Having all the Area Duals held on the same weekend.
Helping the GHSA with the logistics and the personnel to host all 5 classifications in Macon for the State Duals.

The recipients of the two GWCA scholarships for the 2004-2005 year are Alex Haney and Jeremy Walker of North Forsyth High School. Both were Area Champions this past year and both placed 6th in the State. Both Alex and Jeremy did an excellent job completing their essays of what wrestling has meant to them, and how they plan to stay involved with wrestling. Both of these wrestlers will receive a GWCA scholarship totaling $500. It is our hope that more wrestlers will apply for the GWCA scholarships to be awarded after the 2005 - 2006 season.
